KaTom Ecommerce Case Study

March 2004

KaTom Restaurant Supply needed a new site design to improve their usability and sales. They approached NetBlazon for a clean new look that improved their customers' ability to find and purchase products on their website.

KaTom's Brand New Miva Store

We designed a user-friendly website with lots of whitespace and multiple methods of navigation. Products are categorized by product type and by vendor. A perpetual search form and an advanced search mechanism allows customers to quickly find the items they need. Custom programming highlights featured products in top-level categories, and Category Breadcrumbs help users gain their bearings while traversing the category hierarchy.

Because KaTom also sells supplies via their printed catalog, we integrated our Quick Order module into the header of a special category called Catalog Quick Order. Users can quickly enter a product's code to place that product into their basket.

KaTom also needed better search engine placement. To improve their rankings, we began by installing our Page Title Manager to place important keywords into the HTML title. Next, we installed Wump's Search Engine Killer 2 (no longer available or recommended!) to create static pages to mirror the store screens. Finally, we configured Copernicus' Search Engine Tracker to provide feedback on the search terms that generate visits and sales. More SEO work is still in progress.

NetBlazon modules used are:

  • Category Breadcrumbs
  • Quick Order (not currently available)
  • Cat Tree Font Control (no longer available)
